Parents Still Need to Play

You are never too old to play!

Play with your kids, but also remember to schedule some play time with your spouse and adult friends!

My husband, David, and I love to play.

Last weekend we had a fun time celebrating a great friend, Cortney.

We began the afternoon on the new Sea Legs Pedal Pub! What a fun adventure it was!

It is BYOB, so you may need to use your Sea Legs when you get off the boat! Be prepared and call a taxi or Uber if you shouldn‘t drive.

Top 10 list of things to do at Carolina Beach

There is truly something special about this small coastal town of Carolina Beach. It’s what the locals call “a little slice of paradise” and the visitors tend to agree! Now that short term rentals and beach restrictions have been lifted as we are slowly beginning to get our lives back to a “new normal”, I would love to share how you could support the local businesses as they try to get back on there feet while staying “six feet apart.” Here are my Top 10 list of things to do the CB way of life!

  1. SunFun Rentals: Once you arrive OTB (Over The Bridge) you will no longer need your car. CB is a golf cart friendly town where you can take the cart anywhere in town with a 35mph zone. No need to leave the island until you have to go home. I know. Sorry, but please come back soon!
  2. Pleasure Island Rentals: Another great way to see the town is by bike! The town of CB has a beautiful new Greenway that travels from Mike Chapel Park until you get to Kure Beach. There are also several bike lanes throughout town. Try to spot the local alligator sunbathing on the banks of the pond. But no worries he just minds his own business as long as you mind yours.
  3. The Veggie Wagon: This organic and local farms produce stand is a gem! They have local produce, meats from local farms, as well as delicious homemade take and bakes. The “to go” food items are perfect for a picnic on the beach. Also a great place to stop for a morning pick me up, a delicious slushy (with healthy add in options) and even local beers on tap for a growler or two to take away!
  4. CB State Park: Great way to get your hike in for the day. With 9 miles of family friendly trails and beautiful views of the Cape Fear River you will be left feeling

closer to nature. The park also offers kayak tours. Don’t miss the breathtaking sunsets going down over the Cape Fear River. Some of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen!!

  1. Movies on the Lake: It’s Sunday evening so grab a blanket and come down to the lake to watch a free movie with your family! There is a concession stand to purchase popcorn and other movie night essentials or you can bring along your own food from a local restaurant to devour while you watch. May I suggest Hang Ten Grill. Known for their juicy burgers, fresh salads and chicken wings!
  2. Carolina Beach Boardwalk: Ranked one of the top 10 boardwalks in the country by Food & Wine magazine, a stroll on CBB features classic seaside family fun with shops, restaurants and nightlife entertainment. One of the last East Coast boardwalks where the feeling of nostalgia takes you back to the “good ole days” Get your fill on fudge at The Fudgeboat, homemade donuts from the world famous Britts, visit the Carolina Beach Arcade, and don’t miss the view of the ocean from the Ferris Wheel. Then finish off the day with a nightcap at Crush and Grind.
  3. Island Ice Factory: If you find yourself lying on the beach on a hot and humid kinda day what better way to cool of than by having an Island Ice. No need to venture to the CB Boardwalk they have a push cart strolling the beach. Look for the Italian ice flag. My favorite is the lemon. So refreshing!
  4. CB Surf Shop: It’s everything you think a surf shop should be. They carry all your favorite brands such as Rip Curl, Billabong and Olukai just to name a few. If it’s a new pair of shades, a bathing suit, or a nice pair of flops CB Surf Shop has you covered. If you want to really submerge yourself into the coastal lifestyle of CB you can rent a surfboard or a paddleboard during your stay. However, if you need lessons l highly recommend the expertise of Tony Silvagni. A world renowned professional surfer with many medals to prove it. Contact Tony Silvagni Surf School to set up some lessons during your vacay. I promise, you will probably leave with salt in your blood and understand why “surfing is a way of life.”
  5. Squigley’s Ice Cream: Serving CB for 25 years and counting it’s NC Southeastern most famous ice cream parlor. Known for the “Squigley” which starts with a vanilla base. Then you choose from a long list of items including fresh fruits, candies, and homemade baked goods. Using their patented machine your custom treat is then “Squiggled” to perfection! You even get a sticker to prove that you’ve been “Squiggled!” Check out the upstairs gift shop too.
  6. Sea Legs Pedal Pub: What better way to burn off all your vacay calories than to book a trip on CB’s most unique and fun experience on the water! Sea Legs Pedal

Pub is a boat, no a bike, no a bar (ok it’s really all 3). This one of a kind excursion will have you laughing, singing and pedaling along your way while enjoying CB from a different view. Take in the salt air with your closest friends or family while sipping a beverage of your choice (BYOB). They provide the ice to keep them cool and a take home coozie or cup as a souvenir. Book a 90-minute cruise down the CB canal to take in the scenes of the saltwater marsh and the wildlife that goes with it. Keep your eyes out for the turtle that calls the canal her home! Sightsee the waterfront homes and the boat life of CB. And don’t worry…if your Sea Legs get tired there is a motor to help along the way!
